April 27, 2010 Certification, Success
It turns out that I’m eligible to pass exam 70-536 for free – my company will pay for me, but before I’m required to pass Brainbench C# exam with higher than 4.0 score.
And I just did it – my score is 4.03.
You could see my results using following link: http://www.brainbench.com/transcript.jsp?pid=9108054
So now I could use this logo on my blog (see somewhere on the right):
Also in e-mail which I got is following information:
You are eligible for a certificate! Would you like to receive it? | ||||||
|
How do you think should I pay for that? Please let me know.
Also following information says that I have weak areas in implementing Services and Data Consumers. Need to check-out in more details about that.

IMO this kind of certification is low-quality. According to rules "individuals are encouraged to use reference materials when taking Brainbench tests"
Actually many questions can be answered by quick googling. As for me many question I answered looking into MSDN.
Even more I tried to google whole question description and I found forum with answers to many test questions:) But it was considered by me as cheating mainly to myself so I denied to use such kind of resource.
I passed exam with 4.02 but really I don't think that this certification is useful in any other way that just for fun and maybe self-improving. Anyway thanks for discovering it for me;)
I did not say that this exam is something hard for experienced developer. I think that you have experience, that is why it was so easy for you. It is inner exam.
And besides I got possibility to have 70-536 for free thanks to passing this stuff.
BTW I didn't think that it is worth to buy paper/electronic certificate. I think it will enough to mention link to results in CV if you like. If paper version would be cheaper then it can be bought just for fun – to place in frame at some your own corner with all those certificates, honors, awards and other stuff:)
P.S. Something indicates me that paper certificate is just e-version which is printed on usual printer:)
Agree. At least for this exam :)
hey what do u mean by Developing Data Consumers and Services?
As I recall it is creating Web Services and consuming them. Not sure if there were anything about WCF.
You can see more about this exam here: http://brainbench.com/xml/bb/common/testcenter/taketest.xml?testId=1235

But don't most of us, as developers, turn to Google or MSDN or books or another resource (even each other) when we don't have a ready answer for something or are experiencing an issue with our applications? The difference between doing that while working an application and while passing a Brainbench certification is that Brainbench has a time limit depending on the question. Plus, anyone who isn't a skilled developer already will likely have trouble finding the correct answer in the time allowed.
I'm curious to see how well I'd do in an exam where I'm not at all familiar with the content and need to answer questions using only information I've found online. Perhaps I'll try this, just for the fun of it!
Than it is kind of measurement of your "googling" skills.
